Identifying your unit

The label

Every Karu leaves the den with a label carrying two things: a serial and a QR code.

The serial

KARU is the product line. The five characters that follow identify the unit, and the last character is a check character — it catches a mistyped serial before it becomes someone’s afternoon.

The alphabet is 23456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZ. There is no 0, 1, I or O in it, so a character that looks like a zero is the letter Q’s problem, not yours. Serials are not sequential; you cannot read anything into the number beyond which unit it is.

The QR code

The QR encodes a link that is unique to your unit. Scanning it resolves the unit and sends you to the pages for its exact revision — this site, the right product, the right revision.

Treat that link the way you would treat a receipt. Knowing it shows that you have the unit (or a photograph of its label) in front of you, which is what lets it open unit-specific documents and start a return. It is not proof of ownership and cannot transfer one.

If a scan does not resolve, the code was probably captured incompletely. Re-scan it closer, or type the serial into the RMA request instead.
